Manchester United Football Club is in need of a major overhaul both on and off the field. The Glazer family simply have to spend money to get us back on track, with the playing squad and club staff needing serious investment.
Amongst the topic of conversation is the potential hiring of a technical director. It’s a role that is fairly new, although some of Europe’s elite clubs are using it to their advantage as it takes pressure off the manager.
The Daily Mail have thrown a new name into the ring, as they say that United are ‘seriously considering’ club legend Rio Ferdinand as a possibility for the new potential job opening.
Apparently, the English centre-half has met with Edward Woodward to discuss the option, with United thinking about bringing Ferdinand back in a major role.
The article states that the Glazers have been keen to get Ferdinand back at the club ever since he hung up his boots four years ago. At that time, a deal was never possible but now the timing could be right for the retired centre-half who now works as a TV pundit.
I would genuinely love to see Ferdinand back at United in some capacity. He is a wonderful ambassador for this club, be it in a technical director role or more of an ambassadorial one. Personally, I’d prefer to see him come on board as the latter because I’m not sure he has the ability to take on the technical duties at this stage. Perhaps in time that could come, though…
