Man United are seriously interested in making their move to sign Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s growing unhappiness at Manchester United is a genuine cause for concern – despite the fact everyone could see it coming a mile off.
The Portugal international wanted to depart over the summer. That wish was not granted. He now looks a shadow of his former self. Moving away from the greatest to ever do it may be tough in January – though that isn’t stopping the Red Devils from looking at possible options.
About a week or so ago, we covered rumoured interest in Bayern Munich veteran striker, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
Now his name is back in the headlines again. This time from Florian Plettenberg. Apparently, United are ‘seriously interested’ in a winter transfer for the striker. The Old Trafford club have already ‘inquired’ about the 33-year-old.
Right now, he’s a candidate to replace Ronaldo, with the Reds expecting Choupo-Moting to leave Bavaria in the summer. As things stand, though, it looks as if the striker will indeed stay with Bayern…
Check out Florian Plettenberg‘s tweet on the latest on a potential Reds move to sign Choupo-Moting:
Choupo-Moting has been a valuable asset for Bayern this term, scoring ten goals already. The Cameroon international is looking sharp under Julian Nagelsmann. Prising him away may not be as easy as the Old Trafford club think…
For United, if they could pull this move off, it would be nothing but a short-term solution to a problem that isn’t going away until they send big on a top-class, 20+ goal a season forward. Choupo-Moting strikes me as someone who’d play a bit-part for the Reds, rather than becoming the focal point of the attack.
Sadly, that dependent, guaranteed goalscorer is rarely available in the mid-season window. I do not see anyone out there who would fill that void this January.
