Man United set date for Lisandro Martinez return after injury

Lisandro Martinez is targeting an injury return at the end of March, after the upcoming international break.

Manchester United fans have barely seen Lisandro Martinez out on the pitch this season. The defender has been managing multiple issues over the past year. It started with a metatarsal problem, which ruled him out for many months at the start of the campaign.

Martinez would come back, then pick up another injury in a game against West Ham United. This time, a knee issue.

There has been some good news provided on that front, by journalist Laurie Whitwell who writes for The Athletic.

United have now set a ‘target’ date for Martinez’s injury return, with the defender looking to make his Man United comeback against Brentford in about two-and-a-half weeks.

Before then, Licha will join up with the Argentina squad for their friendlies in the United States next week, though there are no plans to play. Instead, he’ll just finish his recovery with the national squad.

No doubt this has been a mentally draining time for Licha. Being around the international side could definitely help with his morale, rather than staying back in Manchester alone, while all his teammates jet off to represent their country.

I just hope that Martinez is now over the worst of these issues. I wouldn’t want him to get a reputation of being injury prone, which could happen if he picks up another injury before the end of the campaign.

United as a club have their own part to play, too. They have to ensure that they manage Martinez well. Don’t overplay him. Don’t rush him back. Sometimes, players have to be protected from themselves. Particularly footballers like Licha who’d do anything to get out there on that field.
