Manchester United are set to take on West Ham without two senior defenders, who will miss out through injury.
Yesterday, we’d learn that Paul Pogba is set to be sidelined for a few weeks due to a thigh issue he’d pick up against Everton.
Unfortunately, the Red Devils’ injury problems don’t stop there… Up until this week, it felt like United had been relatively fortunate, though like buses when you’re waiting for one, plenty come at once.
Ahead of a massive cup tie against West Ham later tonight, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed a couple more players who’ll miss the game alongside Pogba.
The gaffer would confirm that Phil Jones (surprise surprise) is still out. On top of that, Eric Bailly is looking likely to miss the game tomorrow, despite the fact that he’s now back out on the grass and in training.
Considering United’s defensive struggles at the weekend, this is a pretty big injury blow, with two potential replacements now set to miss this game – leaving Solskjaer with no choice in regards to who he starts at the heart of his defence.
Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:
“Eric is getting better. He’s still not available for the Cup game tomorrow we don’t think,” said the gaffer to ManUtd.com. “He’s been out on the grass and training and we’ll make a decision tomorrow. I don’t think he’ll be involved.
“Everyone [else] is available and trained this morning, apart from Phil [Jones] who’s still out.”
I mean, at this point, who is shocked that Jones has missed practically the whole season? The guy’s constantly suffering from problems and he’s undoubtedly the most unreliable player at the club right now.
As for Bailly, he was superb before picking up a minor injury. The good news is that he’s now back in training, which suggests it won’t be too long before he’s available for selection again.
In the meantime, Solskjaer will have to persist with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at the heart of our defence. Hopefully, they can avoid mistakes and help us progress into the FA Cup sixth round…
