Man United will have to cope without Tom Heaton for the next few weeks, with the goalkeeper dealing with an injury.

With very little time in between games this season, largely due to the World Cup, injuries were always going to catch up with pretty much every club.

Manchester United are no exception to that rule, with several key faces missing through both treatment table woes and suspension of late.

Today, the injury list has been confirmed to grow by one; Tom Heaton.

Eyebrows were raised when Heaton was not on the bench for United’s final game before the international break, particularly as he’d been a regular amongst the substitutes ever since Erik ten Hag took charge as boss.

Yesterday, the official club website confirmed the Heaton injury, adding that he’ll be missing for a ‘few weeks’ due to the ankle problem.

Sadly, the veteran shot-stopper rolled his ankle in training, resulting in him wearing a protective boot on the area for the next few days.

He’ll then look to get back out on the training pitch as soon as possible, reclaiming that back-up spot ahead of loanee Jack Butland.

In truth, this is a non-issue – unless David de Gea picks up an injury. Then, it becomes a serious concern.

The Spaniard has played in pretty much every single game this season, highlighting a real lack of faith in both Heaton and Butland by manager Ten Hag.

More than anything, it’s just disappointing for the player. Heaton, who isn’t getting any younger, will be chomping at the bit to show Ten Hag what he’s capable of, but these injuries just make it even harder for the Chester-born-shot-stopper to prove his worth.

Get well soon, Tom!
