Man United are looking to sign a new midfielder this summer, with Ruben Neves now on the radar.
Jadon Sancho’s move to Manchester United is all-but confirmed, with the Red Devils’ transfer attention now elsewhere.
The need for a new midfielder is still very real. Nemanja Matic is ageing, while Scott McTominay cannot do it all on his own. Having that deeper-lying central player could be pivotal if we’re serious about challenging for a title in 2021/22; enter, Ruben Neves.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ star midfielder has enjoyed an excellent few seasons at Molineux and now, he could be on the move.
It’s journalist Rudy Galetti with the scoop, thanks to the Manchester Evening News for relaying the information via their live blog.
Apparently, United are keen on Neves, though they’ll face competition from Arsenal. The Reds are set to battle it out with their London rivals to sign the 24-year-old, who could cost £34.3m.
Galetti claims that the midfielder could leave Wolverhampton, though without discounts.
Honestly, that £34m (ish) asking price is extremely fair in the current climate – particularly when Neves is still so young in footballing terms.
Without wanting to disrespect Arsenal, you’d hope that United would have more than enough firepower to win this transfer race over The Gunners – assuming both sides will firm up their interest with an official bid, of course.
Neves brings something different to our midfield and this really could be an astute piece of business if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can pull it off.
What I like most is that Neves has Premier League experience and he could slot right into the heart of our side from day one. As of right now, though, this is the only source to bring this rumour to the table. I’d like to see it backed up by a couple of the British media heavyweights before I really start believing the story.
