Man United are ready to test Wolverhampton Wanderers’ resolve regarding Ruben Neves.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United is going to look an awful lot different to that of his predecessor. Most notably due to the massive overhaul in the squad, starting with loads of regulars leaving on free transfers.
The midfield area is probably our biggest concern. Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are confirmed to be on their way out. That’s already two holes the club have to fill.
James Garner may well be given one of those slots, while the other will likely go to a new signing. Several names have been linked, including Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves.
This morning, journalist Ekrem Konur had an update for us in regards to the Reds potential move of the Portugal international.
Apparently, United are ‘set to make’ a £45million offer for the Premier League midfielder, presumably with the intent of signing Neves this summer.
Neves has been a fantastic servant for Wolves over the years, including helping his side earn promotion to the Premier League.
You now get the distinct impression that Neves believes he’s achieved all he can with the Midlands outfit, and a move away could well be on the cards.
There’s no doubt a switch to Old Trafford is a drastic step up for Neves, but his simple-but-effective style of play is exactly what we’ve been crying out for over the last year or so.
The £45m initial bid feels like a pretty fair amount for all involved, particularly with Neves’ contract only having a couple of years left to run.
I love the fact that Neves already has Premier League experience, too, meaning he could slot straight into the starting line-up and from day one.
