Man United are all set to offer Kobbie Mainoo a huge wage increase after making his first-team breakthrough this season.

Manchester United have never shied away from giving younger players an opportunity in the first team. Erik ten Hag has continued that mantra this season.

Kobbie Mainoo has undoubtedly been the breakout star after returning from injury in November. Perhaps his first-team leap would have come even earlier if he didn’t pick up an injury in pre-season, delaying his senior minutes by a few months.

There’s no doubt the Englishman has been a real revelation. Big goals, a real on-ball composure, a genuine on-field presence. Mainoo has it all. He only signed a new contract 12 months ago, though a new deal is now in the offing.

The Sun on Sunday provide the latest information on that front. They state that United are now set to offer the starlet new terms, with Mainoo possibly trebling his wages.

His current deal is worth around £20,000-a-week, with United now set to hand Mainoo terms worth £60,000-a-week, potentially tying the midfielder down until 2030.

This is nothing new for United. They’ve always preferred to pay their starlets sooner rather than later in order to protect their asset.

Apparently, this new deal is set to be signed off at the end of the season, with the contract ensuring that ‘serious money’ will kick in over the duration of the terms, presumably gradually increasing as Mainoo gets that little bit older.

For some players, offering too much money too soon can become a real problem, though you get the impression that Mainoo is staying extremely grounded at this stage of his young career. Plus, let’s be honest, he deserves every penny based on recent performances.

Do you think Kobbie Mainoo is deserving of a new contract already? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
