Man United set to sell Willy Kambwala for £8.5m fee

Man United are going to lose Willy Kambwala this summer, with the young centre-back heading to Villareal on a permanent deal.

Manchester United Football Club are yet to make any major transfer moves yet, though the Joshua Zirkzee signing feels like the first one that will be announced.

Not only is this an important window for incoming signings, though the club need to raise some funds by selling players, too. Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho were meant to be the two major sales this summer, though the latter is now set to stay.

One young man I was not expecting to see leave is Willy Kambwala. However, this morning, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed some huge news on that front, as the Reds are set to lose the talented 19-year-old in a permanent deal.

Apparently, Kambwala is set to head over to Villareal in Spain, with a fee of around £8.5m (10m euro) agreed. The Old Trafford club will include a future buy-back clause for the defender, which is good news.

I’ll be honest, I’m gutted to see Kambwala leave. He’s a top class talent who genuinely has the potential to become an elite-level centre-half. For me, the fee feels a little low, though the fact he is protected by a buy-back clause does ease my concerns somewhat.

What this suggests to me is that Ten Hag has no immediate plans to play Kambwala with regularity, hence, he is open to selling the DR Congo-born centre-back.

Hopefully, Kambwala enjoys his time over in Spain, then comes back to Manchester in future with a real point to prove.
