Man United have apparently determined that Erling Haaland is their main transfer target in the striker position.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is probably kicking himself on a weekly basis as Erling Haaland bangs in another goal. After all, he’s a fan like the rest of us, gutted that the budding superstar chose Borussia Dortmund over Manchester United.
Well, the Baby Faced Assassin hasn’t completely given up hope, though. As brutal as it sounds, Dortmund is likely a stepping stone for the Norwegian hitman. United hope that they can persuade Haaland to call Old Trafford his next home.
Well, now we know for definite that Haaland is still a target and we have the Manchester Evening News to thank for that. Apparently, United ‘have settled’ on the 31-goal star as their centre-forward priority in the transfer market. Though they’ll face heavy, ‘mounting’ competition.
Furthermore, it’s claimed by the MEN that United manager Solskjaer and Football Director John Murtough mutually agree that Haaland is the ‘ideal’ long-term replacement for Romelu Lukaku – who left the club in the summer of 2019.
Way to state the obvious…
Haaland is an absolute gem. He’s arguably already the best centre-forward in the world and he’s only going to improve. This would be a stunning piece of business – though I don’t see how this move happens this summer.
Haaland has a release clause that comes into effect in 2022. Every club under the sun will be in for the 20-year-old, that much is obvious.
In the meantime, United will probably have to find another stop-gap ala Edinson Cavani for next season, then throw all their chips into the middle of the table in just over twelve months’ time.
