Man United should go ‘all out’ to bring in Mauricio Pochettino – Nicky Butt

Former Man United midfielder, Nicky Butt, believes the club should be doing all they can to hire Mauricio Pochettino.

Manchester United Football Club are rapidly approaching a huge summer transfer window. Not only new signings are needed, but a new gaffer is required.

Be it Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag or someone else, the club simply have to be working around the clock behind the scenes in order to hire the right man.

Mistakes have been made in this area in the past. The Glazer family and those that make the decisions cannot afford to get this wrong again.

Understandably, pundits and former professionals alike are having their say. Now, ex-Man United star Nicky Butt has named Mauricio Pochettino as the man he’d hire. He’d go ‘all-out’ to bring in the Argentine, who ‘you’d want to play for’.

Check out what Butt told FourFourTwo here:

“United need stability,” the 47-year-old told FourFourTwo. “They can’t keep having interim managers or learners in very powerful positions. They need people who’ve been there, seen it and done it.

“I’d go all-out to get Mauricio Pochettino as manager. He’s proven in the Premier League, he’s young and enthusiastic, his style of play would suit United and his backroom staff seem switched on. I met him a couple of times at Spurs’ training ground and had lunch. You’d want to play for him.”

We’ve been here before with Pochettino and I’d imagine for as long as United are looking for a manager, the Argentine will be linked. This does feel like a great fit on paper.

Poch utilises youth systems, plays attractive football and does get the absolute maximum out of his players. However, it’s also fair to say his time at PSG has been somewhat underwhelming – hence why Ten Hag has emerged as the new favourite for the job.

I get what Butt is saying about Poch, though. His Premier League experience would stand him in good stead, while although he didn’t win a trophy there, he did improve Tottenham Hotspur as a football club. We cannot overlook that.

No doubt Pochettino should be in consideration for the job. Should he be the firm favourite? For me, no, but United should explore every possible avenue and no doubt the Argentine was one of the first names who came to mind.
