Manchester United and the midfield area is a real problem. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, to his credit, is now seeing some quality out of Fred – but he simply doesn’t have enough bodies in a key area of the field.
Last night, the usually reliable ESPN threw a different name into the mix; Gianluca Busio.
Now you’re probably scratching your head asking, ‘who on earth is that?’ Well, Busio is a 17-year-old plying his trade over in America.
Apparently, United are interested in the MLS midfielder, along with the likes of Fiorentina and Inter Milan. The report adds that all three clubs have made varying levels of contact.
Fiorentina have actually taken their interest a step further by making multiple bids, with the highest being £3m (¢4m) while United are apparently ‘kicking the tires’ in regards to the player.
Busio enjoyed a breakthrough 2019 MLS campaign, playing over 1000 minutes across 26 league and cup appearances, scoring three goals.
The obvious question will be whether the young man can kick it up a notch and play well in a major European league. With respect to the MLS, the step-up in quality is a huge one and the transition, particularly for a young player, isn’t going to be easy.
If United are willing to spend big on youngsters, as they did to sign Hannibal Mejbri, then don’t be surprised to see the Reds’ blow rivals out of the water in pursuit of Busio. But only if they’re 100% sold he’s talented enough…
