Manchester United have added AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli to their list of centre-half transfer targets.
As Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hunts for a new centre-half, all the talk has been about Raphael Varane. However, MilanNews believe United are looking at another name; Alessio Romagnoli.
The Italian had been a mainstay in both the Milan and Italy national side for the last half-decade or so, though things changed this term. Manager Stefano Pioli had a preference for Fiyako Tomori and Simon Kjaer, leaving Romagnoli with a decision to make about his future.
It’s claimed Milan could cash in due to Romagnoli’s contract situation, with the Italian having just a year left on his current deal, leaving him with a decision to make.
United are interested in the classy 26-year-old, as are Paris Saint-Germain. Right now, though, it’s FC Barcelona leading the way, with MilanNews claiming that Romagnoli is mainly ‘admired’ by the Catalan giants.
Romagnoli undoubtedly has a point to prove after being snubbed by Italy for the European Championships this summer. Which does raise the obvious question; is he good enough for Manchester United?
Well, you never lose your ability and Romagnoli has that in abundance. I’d argue that as soon as he walks through the Old Trafford doors (provided United are interested enough to make the move), he’d be our first-choice partner for Harry Maguire.
What’s also intriguing about this deal is Romagnoli would be available for below his market value due to his contract winding down. At this point, this definitely feels like a gamble worth taking. Heck, if he’s that cheap, United could still sign someone else in the centre-half position as well as Romagnoli…
