Man United have eyes on impressive Turkish midfielder, Orkun Kokcu.
Manchester United Football Club are undergoing major change at present. The Red Devils, now part-owned by INEOS, are looking to head in a different direction.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe will put his own stamp on proceedings this summer, with fans set to get a glimpse into how the Failsworth-born-businessman likes to operate. Will he splash the cash? Will he look for more cost-effective deals? It remains to be seen.
Several names have already been linked with an Old Trafford switch this summer. Now, another fresh face has been thrown into the mix; Orkun Kokcu.
It’s O Jogo with the claim, who write that United are among the clubs interested in signing the 23-year-old midfielder. Kokcu has thirteen goal contributions (3 goals, 10 assists) this season, during his debut campaign with SL Benfica.
Kokcu only arrived in Portugal in the summer of 2023, for a fee of around £25m, breaking Benfica’s transfer record in the process. It’s fair to say the Turk has been worth the outlay.
Understandably, Benfica will want a tidy profit on Kokcu if they’re forced into letting him leave so early, with a £35m deal said to be the starting point.
There have been rumours suggesting that Kokcu is currently unhappy at Benfica due to his position. He’d prefer to play further up the field, though as things stand, he’s largely been restricted to minutes in a deeper midfield role. At United, that would also likely be the case as Bruno Fernandes always starts when fit.
You’d imagine that more parties will show an interest in Kokcu as we approach the start of the summer window. It also feels like this is just United testing the waters at this time, rather than concrete interest.
