Man United are showing an interest in signing Brighton midfielder, Alexis Mac Allister.
Manchester United are definitely intent on signing a new midfielder this summer, with several reports, particularly this week, linking the Reds with a move to bring in a player in that area.
Several names have been linked, with two Brighton players seemingly on the radar, according to a report earlier this week. Both Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo were claimed to be in the Reds’ sights.
Now, The Guardian follow that up with a story of their own, focusing purely on the World Cup winner, Mac Allister.
According to their sources, United ‘are interested’ in the 24-year-old midfielder, along with Liverpool and Chelsea.
On top of that, the player would ‘welcome’ a summer transfer away from Brighton this summer. He is ‘expected’ to leave the Seagulls early on in the window – though only if their transfer conditions are met. Their asking price for Mac Allister will ‘soon’ be decided.
Mac Allister has a deal that runs until 2025, so it can be argued that his value will never be higher than this summer, assuming he doesn’t put pen to paper on new terms with Brighton.
United will not have it all their own way in pursuit of the Argentine, with other clubs expected to push hard.
The side who eventually wins his signature will be getting a top-class player. I’ve now seen enough quality from Mac Allister to be convinced that this would be a stunning piece of business.
I find that the problem here could come during negotiations with Brighton. They’re notoriously stern sellers. Pay their price or don’t get the player. It really is that simple. I fear their asking price could be way in excess of what United want to pay, while the Reds’ current ownership status doesn’t fill me with confidence.
