Man United showing interest in signing talented Franco Mastantuono

Man United have entered the race to sign top Argentina talent, Franco Mastantuono.

We’ve said it time and time again. Manchester United always do better signing younger players and developing their abilities, rather than splashing the cash on the ready-made player. It’s just how this club operates best.

Alejandro Garnacho is perhaps the best recent example of that. In comparison to Antony. there’s a stark difference between the two situations.

It’s why I always get a little more excited about transfers to bring in little-known youngsters. Hence, today’s latest from ESPN Argentina (via Sport Witness) makes me a tad happier.

According to the story, the Old Trafford club have eyes on River Plate’s Franco Mastantuono.

United are now showing an interest in signing the talented midfielder, joining the race to sign the 16-year-old. Barcelona are also keen.

Mastantuono would not be able to join a European side until he turns eighteen, which is due to happen in August 2025. Until then, United are seemingly trying to lay down the groundwork early, in the hope that the teenager chooses Old Trafford as his next destination.

The River Plate youngster has already played six first-team games for the Argentine side, which tells you everything you need to know about his natural talent and ability.

United absolutely need to get younger at that position. Mastantuono would help the club do that, though winning his signature is not going to be easy.

I fully expect a bidding war will start over the young man soon, with the final decision firmly in the hands of the player. Will United have a genuine chance? Possibly if he’s watching his fellow countryman Garnacho start games aged just nineteen. Finishing inside the top four for a couple of seasons in a row couldn’t hurt, either…
