Man United are seemingly still weighing up a move to sign Kalidou Koulibaly.
Harry Maguire has been an ever-present for Manchester United in the Premier League since signing in 2019. The general consensus is that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now needs to sign his partner.
The Old Trafford club need someone of a high-level, who can help this team build out from the back. Pace is perhaps the biggest requirement due to our captain’s lack of it. Enter, Kalidou Koulibaly.
It has to be said, Napoli have done brilliantly to keep ahold of the Senegal international for so long. Every year, the defender is linked with a move away and seemingly, this summer is no different.
The story comes from Gazzetta dello Sport (Tuesday print edition), translated via Sport Witness. Apparently, United, along with Liverpool, are still ‘so fond’ of the top-class 29-year-old.
What’s interesting is that Napoli’s asking price has significantly reduced. The demands, which once exceeded £100m, now sit at somewhere around £45-52m.

It’s worth noting that Koulibaly isn’t getting any younger, though the eventual buyer would hope that they could get at least a few elite-level seasons out of the Napoli star.
In any normal window, £50million for a player of Koulibaly’s calibre is more than reasonable. However, we’re still in a global pandemic, during which money is tight for clubs.
Couple the lack of money with a pretty jaggered injury history and Koulibaly suddenly looks like a gamble rather than a sure-fire acquisition.
For us here at Old Trafford Faithful, it’s still a risk worth taking because, at his best, Koulibaly is the perfect player for us. Will United take that punt? I’d doubt it…
