Manchester United star Daley Blind is missing from the Red Devils’ pre-season tour squad, as he looks set to seal a £14million move back to Ajax.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say that the Old Trafford club could receive as much as £18.5million for the Dutchman, based on add-ons and bonuses.
Credit where it’s due. Edward Woodward has somehow managed to turn a profit on Blind, who has barely played any football whatsoever over the last two years.
This isn’t a knock on Blind, either. He’s a superb player who became an integral part of the squad under Louis van Gaal. Sometimes, managerial styles just don’t suit certain players; that’s exactly the case here.
At this stage in his career, Blind has to be playing regular football. Ajax can offer him plenty of that, while no doubt giving him the chance to add to an already impressive career trophy haul.
His four years at United will be looked back on with fondness. He always gave everything for the cause, his versatility was key to our successes and he scored a couple of decent goals in Red Devils colours, too.
All the best, Daley!
