Ah, Thomas Meunier… We haven’t covered these rumours since last summer, alas, the Belgian is being mentioned in the same breath as Manchester United once again.
The story, albeit it a short one, comes from Le Foot, translated via 90min.com. They’re claiming that United are ‘staying on top’ of the 28-year-old’s situation, amid uncertainty at Paris Saint-Germain.
Back in June 2019, we covered a story from L’Equipe in which it was claimed Meunier ‘dreamed’ of United. The move didn’t come to fruition with the Reds instead opting for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It’s fair to say that worked out pretty well.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seemingly still keen on Meunier. Perhaps it’s his versatility, with the Belgian being able to play as both the right or left-back. It also means Diogo Dalot could be pushed further up the field – as that’s where he definitely looks more comfortable.
For me, there’s something fishy about this rumour. I’m not quite sure Meunier is the typical profile of a player that Solskjaer has gone for since making the move to Manchester.
It feels as though the better option would be to hand the minutes to Ethan Laird, or one of the many other up-and-coming youngsters within the United youth setup.
Let’s be honest, Meunier isn’t going to replace Wan-Bissaka anytime soon…
