Manchester United Football Club clearly aren’t hanging around this summer, with Jose Mourinho trying to get his summer signings sorted as quickly as possible.
The next name to be linked with an Old Trafford move is Real Madrid centre-half, Raphael Varane. Spanish media outlet Don Balon, translated by the Daily Express, say that United have stepped up their interest in the superstar 25-year-old.
Apparently, Madrid chief Florentino Perez has ongoing doubts about Varane, with the chairman trying to offload the Frenchman while Los Blancos remain managerless.
Madrid’s centre-half is due to jet off to Russia with the France national team in the coming days as he prepares to take part in the World Cup, but what a signing this would be if Mourinho could pull it off.
Varane is up there amongst the best centre-backs in world football, and I find it crazy that Perez hasn’t taken a liking to the Frenchman as a player.
In a duo alongside Eric Bailly, we could be looking at the most talented pairing since Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand graced the Old Trafford turf, which is obviously a huge comparison.
No doubt Varane would cost an insane amount of money should the deal happen, but sometimes, players become available where the buying club should see the transfer fee as irrelevant. United should pay whatever it takes to bring the Real Madrid defender to Manchester.
