Man United ‘still feel’ Frenkie de Jong deal can be done

Man United still believe they can acquire Frenkie de Jong from FC Barcelona this summer.

The Frenkie de Jong situation is starting to become a real transfer saga. Manchester United probably wouldn’t have anticipated this one dragging so long.

In terms of updates, the latest from Spain made grim reading for United fans. Apparently, Xavi met with the player and both came out of the meeting feeling good.

Yesterday afternoon, Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth shared his latest information. His claim was slightly more positive from a Reds standpoint.

Apparently, United still feel’ a deal can be done to sign Erik ten hag’s top transfer target.

Sheth says that despite Joan Laporta’s public belief that De Jong will remain with the Catalan club, United ‘remain comfortable’ in their position. The broad agreement worth £72m is still on the table.

However, the Sky reporter states that United have set their own deadline for the transfer, as they have other targets they could move on to in the event that this De Jong deal fails. It’s also stated that for now, United will continue to pursue the Dutch international, amid the drama about his unpaid wages.

There’s no doubt that Ten Hag has plans to build his starting line-up around De Jong. With both Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic leaving, United absolutely have to acquire a central midfielder of some description during this window.

He’s the perfect player for this high-pressing, high-efficiency system. Hence why the Reds have spent so long chasing the Dutchman’s signature. However, there’s only so much more time United can spend on De Jong as we near the start of the Premier League season in under a fortnight.

Do you think Frenkie de Jong would be a good signing for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
