Man United seemingly still have eyes on Ruben Neves and Youri Tielemans, should a move to sign Frenkie de Jong fail.
Erik ten Hag’s number one target has been clear from the off; Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutch manager has viewed his countryman as the ideal midfielder for his system, with Manchester United spending the whole summer chasing De Jong’s signature from FC Barcelona.
Thus far, United have failed. De Jong’s preference has always been to remain at FC Barcelona, with the Old Trafford club unable to persuade the player to make the move to Manchester.
Well it’s always good to have a contingency plan, right? CaughtOffside seem to know the identity of the back-up options for United should they fall short in pursuit of De Jong.
They state that a Premier League midfield duo are ‘still on’ United’s ‘list’ if they fail to lure De Jong to the Theatre of Dreams this summer; Ruben Neves and Youri Tielemans.
However, the Manchester club could miss out on those players if they continue to wait for a decision from De Jong.
For us here at Old Trafford Faithful, United should have moved on to these other targets months ago. De Jong doesn’t want to be here, so why should United be pushing so hard to bring in the Dutchman?
Why not test the waters for either Tielemans or Neves, gauge their interest levels when it comes to joining and work out how much it’d cost to sign either player. Tielemans, in particular, could be a bit of a bargain as his contract expires next summer.
We’re now just a few days from the Premier League season opener, so United will have to get a move on if they’re to secure these signings before that match against Brighton on Sunday.

Hurray, some one has smelt the coffee brewing.
Buy Ibrahim Sangare and Ruben Neves; forget De Jong
