Just when you find yourself questioning whether Manchester United is still an attractive proposition for players, you’re reminded how great this club is…
According to the Daily Telegraph, the Red Devils are still in the race to sign the top-class Ajax centre-half, Matthijs de Ligt, even though there is no Champions League football on the table.
Apparently, the 19-year-old still remains interested in an Old Trafford move, and although United aren’t the favourites, the fact that the Dutchman could become the Red Devils’ new poster boy is appealing to him.
For one so young, De Ligt has shown a maturity way beyond his years. We’re looking at probably the best teenage prospect in the world at the moment and if there is any chance that United can get him, they must go all-out to do so.
Yes, the chances are probably slim, but this kid is special. He is one player I would break tradition for, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to go for the astute signings rather than splashing the cash on marquee players.
De Ligt is someone you can build around, and for those questioning whether United can attract him, remember that both Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic moved here with Europa League football on the cards.
