Man United are still in the hunt to sign Benjamin Pavard, who wants to leave Bayern Munich this summer.
Manchester United have made two important signings this summer, though Erik ten Hag understands that his work is not yet done. The gaffer is still pushing for further additions, which makes sense given the lack of quality in depth in some areas.
To help plug many holes, versatile players could be the move. It’s why the latest information from Florian Plettenberg, on a potential move for Benjamin Pavard makes sense.
Plettenberg took to Twitter yesterday, to confirm that United are in the race’ to sign the versatile 27-year-old. Manchester City and Juventus are also keen, with the cross-town rivals feeling like the favourites right now.
The player ‘wants to leave’ his current club this summer, having ‘no intention’ of extending his contract beyond its current 2024 expiry. That should force Bayern Munich’s hand into parting with the France international during this window.
Pavard’s ability to play all across the back line, but predominantly at centre-back, would make this an astute piece of business. He could also fill in at right-back to a high level if necessary.
I’d suspect that this is a signing that will only happen if United sell a central defender. Harry Maguire’s future remains up in the air. He could well be moved on for a decent fee. Pavard would represent an adequate replacement, while the club would probably profit money, too.
If I had to make a guess, United feel unlikely to sign Pavard. City are the frontrunners right now and I think unless that collapses, he’s going to choose them over us every single time.
