Manchester United Football Club are being linked with a move for Raphael Varane.
Earlier today, we covered a story from Fichajes, claiming that Manchester United were eyeing a move to sign Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid.
Well, now, the Old Trafford club are being linked with a different Real Madrid centre-half; Raphael Varane…
MD state that Varane has always been on United’s agenda, while the centre-half has been on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s list for a while. Apparently, in the past, United have already made approaches to try and get this signing done.
It’s claimed that £43m (€50m) could be enough to get the deal done, which is relatively cheap for a player of Varane’s calibre in the modern-day game.
One thing seems certain…
We tend to take Spanish reports with a pinch of salt. However, one thing seems dead-set – Manchester United are looking to sign a centre-half at some point.
Varane is amongst the best in the business, as is Ramos. Both being linked to United on the same day seems fishy. Signing either would be a stunning piece of business.
My immediate concern would be Real Madrid’s willingness (or lack of) to sell. I just don’t see Florentino Perez letting one of these guys leave when the transfer window opens.
If I had to choose, I’d opt for Varane as he’s seven years younger. He’d also bring pace to the table, which is an asset that’s needed alongside someone like Harry Maguire.
For what it’s worth, we think this one has legs. Although a lot can change between now and the summer…
