Man United still interested in signing Declan Rice

Man United remain interested in signing Declan Rice, though they’re not the current frontrunners.

Manchester United’s spine of the team needs reworking during this summer window. Goalkeeper, centre-back, central midfield and striker.

Filling all those holes in one summer, while club ownership remains up in the air, may prove to be difficult. However, the Old Trafford side will undoubtedly do their best.

The Daily Mail provide information on the latest in regard to United’s move for a midfielder, namely Declan Rice.

The crux of the article states that Rice will snub any offers from continental Europe, in order to stay in the Premier League.

Right now, Arsenal are the frontrunners to acquire the West Ham United man, though United remain ‘interested’ in signing the 24-year-old.

Bayern Munich are also keen on Rice, though the fact he wants to stay in England makes it tough for the Bavarian club to complete a deal.

West Ham are after in excess of £100m to let Rice leave, which seems super steep. Arsenal are prepared to make an opening offer of £90m.

Rice is understood to be settled in London, which does give Mikel Arteta’s side an advantage.

If I had to guess, I’d imagine that United will not be spending a massive chunk of their budget on Rice this time around – purely because there is still plenty of holes within this squad that need filling.

While it would be a statement of intent from the Old Trafford club, there are more pressing needs, whereas a midfielder is Arsenal’s top priority right now.

No doubt United’s name will be continued to be used by both West Ham (to drive up the price) and the media (because United generate clicks), even though I don’t expect the club to follow up on their interest.
