Man United still ‘tracking’ Ivan Toney, all set to leave Brentford this summer

Man United still have eyes on Brentford’s Ivan Toney, with the Englishman all set to depart Brentford this summer.

Manchester United Football Club will be in the market for a new striker this summer. The Red Devils need to find help for Rasmus Hojlund, who is the only reliable number nine at Old Trafford right now.

Anthony Martial is set to leave this summer, while Marcus Rashford is infinitely more effective out wide. A new forward has to be signed. Preferably someone who can come in and out of the starting line-up as and when required.

One name who has been linked with filling that void is Brentford’s Ivan Toney. The striker recently returned following a multi-month ban for breaking betting regulations. He has been decent since returning.

Now, HITC have written an article detailing the next move for Toney, who is ‘expected’ to make a transfer away from his current club, Brentford, this summer.

Last summer, Brentford wanted around £80m to let Toney leave. Obviously, plenty has changed since then and his asking price has been significantly lowered. The Bees would want around £50m now. However, it’s reported that he could be signed for as little as £30m.

Somewhat typically, United are among the sides credited with interest in Toney. The Reds are said to be among a whole ‘host’ of clubs who are ‘tracking’ the 28-year-old striker. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also credited with interest.

I like Toney as a player. I think he’d be a decent option in that back-up role. However, I’m not sure he’d settle for that sort of support job. I also have some doubts about his attitude. He strikes me as arrogant and a potential dressing room problem. It’ll be interesting to see if the Reds take their interest any further.
