Manchester United aren’t in the best of situations right now, particularly with so many first-teamers with contracts winding down.
One such player is Juan Mata. The loveable Spaniard’s current deal expires next summer; although the club do have the option to extend that contract by a further year if they so choose. However, it seems as though the 29-year-old isn’t certain about remaining a Red Devil…
According to ESPN, per The Metro, Mata is not ready to commit his long-term future to United, and will wait until at least January before putting pen to paper; as he looks to assess his options as he ponders making his final decision.
There was some good news, though, with the report also adding that Mata does indeed want to stay, but I think the fact that the #8 is thinking things through tells you everything you need to know about the state United are in right now…
United better act quick, though. As soon as January 1st rolls around, the attacking midfielder will be free to talk to overseas clubs about signing a pre-contract, and they may well be very persuasive – particularly if a big Spanish club comes knocking, as a return home would certainly be tempting.
