Diogo Dalot suffered a hamstring injury against Morocco, leaving Man United sweating on the fitness of the key star.
Suddenly, there are only two Manchester United players left in Qatar; Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.
Brazil, England and Portugal have all been sent home. All in pretty devastating circumstances. The blow was worsened for United first-team regular, Diogo Dalot. He suffered what looked to be a hamstring injury in the game against Morocco.
Dalot, who had been in excellent form for his club, had carried that over to Qatar 2022 for his native Portugal. However, he had to be subbed off midway through the second half of Portugal’s 1-0 defeat.
It’s worth noting that right now, the severity of the injury isn’t known. However, United’s Carabao Cup clash against Burnley takes place in a week and a half. If there were any chance of Dalot playing in that game before the injury, I highly doubt we’re going to see him involved now…
Hamstring injuries can be anything from a few weeks to a couple of months. No doubt we’ll learn more about how long he’ll be out for. However, Dalot will likely be missing for the hectic winter period – leaving Erik ten Hag with a major headache.
The only other first-team option is Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It’s fair to say the Englishman isn’t exactly flavour of the month. In fact, it’s highly likely he leaves in the mid-season window.
No doubt United will try to hold on to Wan-Bissaka until the end of January following this injury blow. This could also mean there’s a real possibility that the Reds either call back Ethan Laird from his loan, or delve into the transfer market and look to sign someone permanently…
