Man United are now patiently waiting for updates on the fitness of Casemiro, Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans. All picked up injuries last time out.
Manchester United suffered late heartbreak against Chelsea on Thursday. The Red Devils conceded twice in the last two minutes, losing 4-3.
Erik ten Hag cut a forlorn figure post-match. He looked like a man fearing for his job. No doubt the pressure is growing after back-to-back poor performances.
The blow was further compounded by more injury problems. At this point, it can no longer be a coincidence. Instead, it feels like an unwanted trend.
United are now sweating on the fitness of yet another trio ahead of a huge game against Liverpool this weekend. All of Casemiro, Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane picked up problems against Chelsea, Ten Hag confirmed to the official club website.
Honestly, when does it end?
Just when United get one or two players back, it feels like they lose a few more. As Ten Hag stated, it’s too early to tell whether these guys have any chance at being involved against our fierce rivals on Sunday.
I’d personally make it a long shot for Varane in particular. He has always struggled to play multiple games a week, while the fact it feels like he has been injured for pretty much the whole season doesn’t help matters either. The quick turnaround time means he is highly unlikely to be involved.
I doff my cap to Evans. He was obviously nowhere close to 100% fit, but he tried to play for as long as possible, lasting about 25 minutes before eventually succumbing to the issue.
As for Casemiro, he looked injured yesterday. It was a truly dismal display from the Brazilian as soon as the game kicked off. Once again, I applaud him for putting his body on the line, but it felt obvious that he had an issue.
Let’s hope none fo these problems are longer-term ones.
