Manchester United’s transfer window is seemingly picking up pace. Following the signings of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, it seems (to me anyway) that a deal to acquire Harry Maguire is close.
Well, the Red Devils aren’t stopping there. According to Spain’s Yahoo Sports, United have now tabled a €50m (£45.7m) bid for Ajax’s talented 22-year-old right-winger, David Neres.
The Brazilian was a vital cog in the Ajax team that made it all the way to the Champions League semi-finals last season. A few of their stars have since moved on, ala AS Monaco a few years ago…
Despite the emergence of youth on pre-season tour, United are still a top-class attacker short. Without signing one I fear we’ll see inconsistency on the right-hand side of the front line for the season’s majority.
Neres would be an astute addition, though the report claims that Ajax will not sell for anything less than £64million; almost £20million above this initial offer made by United…
His twelve-goal tally in the 2018/19 season is pretty good considering his age. You’d imagine Neres will only improve as he continues to develop and learn as a player. What better place to hone your skills than Ajax and then Manchester United?
As of right now, I would be surprised if this deal does happen, particularly with time running out, but Neres is a player I’d welcome with open arms.
