Man United are now the frontrunners in the race to sign Rasmus Hojlund.
It comes as no surprise to hear that Manchester United’s number one priority going into the summer is a new striker. Anthony Martial is injured yet again, whereas Cristiano Ronaldo left back in December.
Wout Weghorst has done a decent job in the interim, though it was always clear that the Dutchman was never going to be the long-term solution.
Several names have already been linked with a potential Old Trafford switch. No doubt those rumours will continue as we approach a huge summer transfer window.
Today’s transfer story comes from the Daily Mirror. They believe United are now in first place in the hunt to sign Rasmus Hojlund.
According to their story, the Reds have ‘taken the lead’ in the race to sign the emerging 20-year-old forward. Apparently, Real Madrid were also hot on the tail of the young man. However, they’ve tied down Karim Benzema to a new contract instead, giving United the edge.
Hojlund is impressing for Atalanta in the Serie A, scoring eight goals across all competitions this term.
A number of clubs have been monitoring the progress of the young Dane, though it was United and Madrid showing the most interest.
There can be no doubt that signing Hojlund is more for the future, rather than one that’s going to have a major impact in the here and now. Hence, if United did acquire the young man, a move for a proven goalscorer may happen alongside this deal. Will United really invest in two forwards in the same window? I’m not so sure.
That said, whoever wins Hojlund’s signature, be it this summer or in the future, will be getting one brilliant talent.
