Man United are set to open transfer talks over the potential signing of Darwin Nunez.
It goes without saying, this Manchester United squad is full of holes. It’s why the Red Devils have struggled so badly over the course of the 2021/22 season.
You’d have to assume that there is far too much work to undertake in one transfer window, though no doubt Erik ten Hag, who is expected to be United’s new manager, will give it his best efforts.
The Old Trafford club are already being linked with pretty much every name under the sun. That will not change because their name generates article clicks.
However, one reputable source in the form of The Athletic, believes United transfer talks are ‘expected’ over the possibility of signing the emerging 22-year-old attacker, Darwin Nunez.
Apparently, United are looking to sign a striker, two central midfielders and a right-winger, with Nunez identified as the forward who the club could add this summer.
Nunez currently plies his trade for SL Benfica, with the Uruguay star having scored a huge 32 goals in just 37 games across all competitions.
There were initially doubts in my mind about whether Nunez could make the leap from Portugal to the Premier League. However, after watching him against Liverpool last night, those fears were quashed.
Nunez has mixed it up with the best of the best in the Champions League this term, improving game-on-game and looking like someone who has the potential to become the next great striker.
With Edinson Cavani leaving, Anthony Martial’s future remains up in the air and Cristiano Ronaldo not getting any younger, it makes perfect sense for the club to try and get younger in this key area of the field.
Nunez would inevitably need time to settle into his new surroundings, while us fans would have to be patient with him if this move does come to fruition.
