Manchester United Football Club have been linked with a move for Antoine Griezmann for quite a while now, with the Atletico Madrid star really turning into one of the best players in the world out in Spain. He’d be a welcome addition at the Theatre of Dreams, that’s for sure.
Obviously, that’s easier said than done and a player of his calibre definitely wouldn’t come cheaply. Now, the man himself has spoken out about the rumours and really quashed them at the source.
He has stated that he only cares about what happens on the pitch, before adding that he is happy in Madrid and nothing changes.
“My future? I only care about what happens on the pitch,” Griezmann is quoted as saying by ESPN.
“I am happy in Madrid. Nothing changes.”
At the end of the day, this is exactly what you’d expect him to say. Griezmann is an excellent professional and he’d be silly if he risked angering his current club and their fans by stating he wants a move.
With that said, there is a release clause in his contract and that has been confirmed by Diego Simeone himself, so if Manchester United do want to activate that – then there would be nothing the La Liga club could do about it.
What a sensational piece of business it would be if Jose Mourinho could pull this one off. Griezmann is a footballer who’d improve any side in the world. Imagine him in a front four with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial and Zlatan Ibrahimovic? Wow…
