Man United target Antony will not play for Ajax in the Eredivisie today…
Cast your mind back to the start of the transfer window, when Manchester United were pushing hard to sign Ajax winger Antony.
The Brazilian flourished under Erik ten Hag in Amsterdam last term, contributing directly to 22 goals. However, it was always going to be tough to bring Antony to Old Trafford due to Ajax’s hefty asking price.
Over the last couple of days, it seems as though United, not content with other potential options, have turned their attention back to Antony.
It’s Fabrizio Romano with the latest information. He has confirmed that the player ‘wants’ Man United this summer, while he hopes Ajax will negotiate with the Red Devils if a new bid is made.
On top of that, Romano confirms that Antony is not training with his current club amid this speculation. The Brazilian will also not be involved against Sparta Rotterdam today. Seemingly, his head just isn’t in it.
What this says to me is that Antony is more than willing to do his bit to try and force this move through. That relationship he has with Ten Hag cannot be understated, with both sides now pushing for that reunion.
United absolutely need a new winger. Antony will bring genuine quality to the table. He plays with confidence, freedom, work ethic and insane ability. What’s not to like about this?
Obviously, it’ll be an expensive chunk of the budget gone, but Ten Hag knows Antony’s game inside-out and vice versa. That close-knit working relationship means the Brazilian could come straight to Manchester and start games.
I guess there is some risk involved, as it’s no guarantee Antony’s game can translate directly from the Netherlands to England. However, we have to trust the manager and get him the players he wants.

United trusted him when Martinez was bought instead of Pau Torres. Everyone said he is too short to be a central defender in England and that has been proven in the two games he has played so far this season.
Should United now spend £80, million on a right winger who could struggle, when they spent £78, million on Sancho last Summer?
