Man United target Gianluigi Donnarumma rejects two contract offers: report

Gianluigi Donnarumma’s AC Milan contract is winding down, with no new deal looking likely.

Back in February, we covered a story from Fichajes, who claimed Manchester United were considering a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The AC Milan shot-stopper could potentially be viewed as the long-term replacement for David de Gea in between the sticks. To us, the rumours never made sense given the fact that Dean Henderson looks more than capable of picking up that mantle.

However, our job here is to cover each and every transfer rumour United are involved in. Today, the Old Trafford club have been given a boost in their reported pursuit of the 22-year-old – if that’s an avenue they still wish to go down.

The story comes from the excellent Gianluca Di Marzio. The Italian writes that with three months left on his current contract, Donnarumma has rejected the latest two contract offers placed on the table by Milan. Right now, there is a ‘pause for reflection between the two parties.

First and foremost, an offer of €6m net was made, with a further €1m on the table for Champions League qualification. The second offer included an immediate two-year extension, though not at the €12m figure that Donnarumma’s agent, Mino Raiola, is after…

It’s claimed Donnarumma will now wait and see if Milan come back with another offer following the Italian outfit securing their place in next season’s Champions League.

Apparently, Milan remains ‘calm’ about the situation and remain hopeful that Donnarumma will ‘read the situation’ then accept the contract offer.

Now’s the time to strike

If I’m United and I’m dead-set on signing Donnarumma, move now while there is uncertainty about his future. Go to him and his agent and blow Milan’s contract offer out of the water. At the very least, that’ll have the Italian considering his future even more.

Again, I’ll reiterate, it’s not a move I would make but Donnarumma’s talent is undeniable. He’s a top-class goalkeeper with bags of experience under his belt despite still being so young. I’m not sure I’d like to deal with Raiola again, though, as this whole Paul Pogba saga has been an absolute nightmare…
