Manchester United target Jack Grealish has a big decision to make about his future. Apparently, he’ll have talks with Aston Villa this week.
The scoop comes from the Daily Mirror, who state that the Reds remain interested in Grealish – and could step up their interest if they continue to be frustrated in pursuit of Jadon Sancho.
Apparently, the 24-year-old United target is set for ‘crunch talks’ with Villa upon his return from holiday. No date for said talks has been set, but he’s due to return for pre-season training later this month.
Grealish had been heavily linked with a United move, though those stories have gone pretty quiet over the last couple of weeks. Probably because the Red Devils have been all-in on their pursuit of Sancho.
In terms of valuation, Villa’s owners have ‘slapped an £80m price-tag’ on Grealish’s head, with the player having three-years left on his £65k-a-week deal. Simply put, they’re under no pressure to sell.
The story from The Mirror also claims that Grealish himself would ‘welcome’ a move to Old Trafford. If a move happens, the Englishman could treble his current wages, to somewhere around £200k-a-week. That’s motivation in itself.
Where would United target Grealish fit in at Old Trafford?
His versatility is pretty important. Primarily, he’d play as a #10, in a rotational system with the likes of Bruno Fernandes. Not only that, though, Grealish can play on the left-wing.
His versatility is a massive selling point. As we all know, United need squad depth and Grealish is a quality player who can play in multiple spots.
A deal wouldn’t come cheap, particularly now that Villa survived relegation. However, he’s a quality player who would improve this squad.
Personally, I’d prefer Sancho. However, Grealish isn’t a bad back-up option, although he primarily plays in a different position.
