Manchester United Football Club have long-needed a top-quality attacking playmaker. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tried several players in that position but to no avail.
Anyway, one player who has constantly been linked with an Old Trafford switch is James Maddison. Today, the Manchester Evening News back that up, by stating that United have ‘strong interest’ in the 22-year-old.
However, the playmaker is considering signing a new deal with current club Leicester City which would be a major blow. Sources close to the player insist that a new contract currently isn’t close and in fact, Maddison could wait until the season’s end until deciding his future.
Maddison’s current deal actually runs until 2023, though you’d imagine Leicester want to significantly increase the Englishman’s wages in order to protect their asset and raise his transfer fee – which obviously makes sense.
The MEN also states that Maddison has been a long-term target for the Old Trafford outfit – as Solskjaer seemingly feels he fits the profile of the player that he’s trying to attract.
There’s no doubt that Maddison would be a stunning acquisition could United pull this deal off. However, Leicester has shown astuteness in the transfer market, and while they’re sitting second in the Premier League table, they do hold all the power…
