Man United have learned how much it’d cost them to sign Nikola Milenkovic from AFC Fiorentina this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side being linked with a centre-back signing seems to be the order of the transfer window. After all, Harry Maguire is desperate for a new, high-quality partner.
Raphael Varane and Joules Kounde are the names most linked. Though back in April, we covered a claim from The Sun, who suggested that United were ready to ‘step up’ their pursuit of Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic.
Now, United have been given a hugely positive update – assuming they’re still keen on signing Milenkovic. The story comes from Italian media outlet Calciomercato. They state that the reported 23-year-old United summer transfer target is available for between £12.7m (€15m) and £15.4m (€18m).
The story is actually based around Juventus interest in Milenkovic, who enjoyed another very impressive season in the Serie A in 2020/21. Apparently, the Old Lady would be open to a player exchange deal that would see Merih Demiral move to Fiorentina.
I guess the first question is whether United can compete with Juventus. It all depends on whether Milenkovic wants to stay in Italy or move elsewhere.
Then it becomes about how keen United are on signing Milenkovic. However, when the asking price is so cheap, it’s surely worth the gamble from a Red Devils standpoint? Even if Milenkovic comes in and is the third or fourth choice from day one, this is a player who can adjust, adapt and improve.
With Axel Tuanzebe possibly leaving on loan and Phil Jones being constantly injured, at the very worst, Milenkovic will be fourth in the pecking order – having every chance at partnering Maguire for practically every game provided Milenkovic lives up to his potential.
