Man United target Ronald Araujo in contract renewal talks with Barca

Man United’s task to sign Ronald Araujo just became a little tougher…

Ralf Rangnick’s time at Manchester United has been decent. The German hasn’t been afraid to speak his mind, nor be honest with the media about some of his players.

With the former RB Leipzig man staying on in a consultancy role after this season ends, I’d like to think he has some sort of say in who the next manager will be – along with having input on potential signings.

One man the club have been linked with a lot recently is FC Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo. The defender is having a brilliant season for the La Liga outfit – and could potentially have had his head turned by the prospect of a big-money contract elsewhere.

Well, United have since been dealt a blow in pursuit of the 23-year-old, with his current club ‘working on’ a new contract for the defender. That’s according to Araujo himself, who’d like to stay at Barcelona ‘for many years’… The story comes from ESPN.

Honestly, this is the clearest indication yet that United have been used in order for Araujo to secure himself a better contract at Barca. We’ve been in this situation before and no doubt we’ll be here again. Sadly, that’s just the way it seems to be playing out on a regular basis at the moment.

Araujo would have been a top upgrade for the Old Trafford club if he was obtainable. At least United now know this chase is already over, meaning they won’t be wasting any time on trying to acquire a player who genuinely has no interest in being a Red Devil.

The need to bring in a new centre-half still remains, though…

Would Ronald Araujo be a good signing for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
