Man United target Salomon Rondon for January loan move: report

Manchester United Football Club have added Bruno Fernandes to the ranks with less than 24 hours left in the January transfer market – but it seems as though the Old Trafford outfit haven’t given up hope on potentially pushing another deal over the line.

As we all know, Marcus Rashford has gone down with injury and he could well be out in the long-term – leaving United short up top. Anyway today, a new forward’s name has been thrown into the mix; Salomon Rondon…

According to The Times, United are targeting the 30-year-old striker on a loan deal, with the Venezuelan potentially available after the Chinese Super League cancelled the start of the new season due to a coronavirus outbreak.

Rondon has Premier League experience, before moving to Dalian Yifang, he played for both West Brom and Newcastle United – scoring a decent amount of goals for both.

What’s interesting to me is that the report from The Times also states that United missed out on Krzysztof Piatek, who is now expected to move to Hertha Berlin in a £23m deal. Rondon is seemingly a back-up option, which leaves me somewhat worried.

I get that Rondon has played in England before, though I’m not sure he’s of the desired level to score goals week-in-week-out during those high-pressure matches. Yes, it’s only a loan move as a stop-gap, though I would like to see United set their sights higher.

The problem is, time definitely isn’t on their side. Edward Woodward will have to pull off something pretty special to push a high-profile deal over the line before today’s deadline. If I’m being totally honest, I just don’t see another deal being done this month…
