Manchester United are targeting four new signings in key positions over the next two transfer windows, the Manchester Evening News report.
The MEN ‘reveal’ that United have provisionally earmarked adding a full-back, midfielder, forward and a striker to the squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
Apparently, the 20-time Premier League champions held a recruitment meeting at the start of September, – with United proceeding as if Paul Pogba will be a long-term member of the squad.
Furthermore, the MEN actually name some possible targets. They state that two Leicester City players are on the list in the form of left-back Ben Chilwell and attacking midfielder James Maddison.
Then, the Reds have also identified both Jadon Sancho and Declan Rice as options, backing up Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plan of signing young, preferably British players.
There is an acceptance that some of these signings require a lot of work, while it’s by no means a gimme that all the players would want an Old Trafford move – Sancho namely, as switching Champions League football with Borussia Dortmund for Thursday’s in the Europa League wouldn’t be an easy decision for the player to make.
I think the ideas are right, it’s now down to United to work on the correct structure and push these deals over the line. I’d still love to see a Director of Football come in, but that doesn’t look likely at ay point soon…
