Mourinho & Man United make world-class 30-year-old their top transfer priority: report

Manchester United Football Club have made AC Milan centre-back Leonardo Bonucci their top priority.

That’s according to Tuttosport in Italy, translated by Sky Sports News. The report says that the world-class 30-year-old has had a difficult season in the Serie A, with Milan willing to cash in on the Italy international if they can recoup the £37million (€42m) that they paid for him last summer.

Manager Jose Mourinho has made the veteran his number one transfer target this summer, with the self-proclaimed Special One believing he can tempt Bonucci to make the move to Old Trafford.

What an absolutely elite signing this would be if the Red Devils can pull it off. Bonucci is up there in the upper echelons of centre-backs in world football, and the experience he’d bring would be absolutely vital.

Eric Bailly has seriously struggled with injury this term, Victor Lindelof is improving all the time but I still don’t feel he’s ready. Phil Jones hasn’t been great, whereas Marcos Rojo just hasn’t played. The only real constant has been Chris Smalling, but he needs a reliable partner. Perhaps Bonucci is that man, and there is no doubt he’d almost single-handedly improve United’s back four.
