Man United want Diogo Dalot back at the club, despite interest from AC Milan.
Diogo Dalot was signed by Jose Mourinho three years ago now, with the then-teenager making a positive impression in the early days of his Manchester United career.
Sadly, though, Dalot hasn’t kicked on and taken his game to that next level. Injuries obviously haven’t helped his case, though the talent is obviously there.
Dalot would head to AC Milan for a year in order to unlock that potential. He’d do okay in Italy, with the Serie A club still trying to get him back for the 2021/22 season. That’s according to the Manchester Evening News.
Well, the deal could be tougher to complete than perhaps AC Milan expected, with United telling the forgotten 22-year-old that they want him to return to the club.
Apparently, Milan have made another loan offer with an option to buy, though United have ‘no intention’ of negotiating a deal for the Portuguese. In fact, they’ve informed Dalot to report for pre-season training next month.
United, who are struggling to agree a deal to sign Kieran Trippier, perhaps see Dalot as a nice back-up plan to have if no new right-back is signed.
From the players’ standpoint, it’s claimed he ‘loves’ the Reds, though he would be open to a move away – presumably so he can play with regularity.
The relationship between Dalot and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a positive one, which is good news. Apparently, the pair kept in touch over the last 12 months, with the manager and his coaching staff offering encouraging feedback to the player.
At the very least, the fact that Dalot and United remain keen on one another is positive. Personally, I don’t see a way into the side on a regular basis for the 22-year-old, particularly with Aaron Wan-Bissaka playing so well. I wouldn’t mind keeping him around as a back-up option, mind…
