Man United & Ten Hag considering ‘shock’ move for Mason Mount

In today’s surprising transfer rumour, Manchester United are weighing up a possible move to sign Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

Today is June 1st, which means we’re edging closer towards the official opening of the summer transfer window.

As things stand, there’s nothing imminent on the horizon in terms of signings, despite the fact we’re being linked with every player under the sun.

Well, today brings a new name being mentioned with a possible Old Trafford switch; Mason Mount…

Yes, I’m just as shocked as you are reading this. Alas, as they say, the show must go on. The story comes from The Sun, who in their opening paragraph, state that United are considering a ‘shock move’ for the 23-year-old attacker.

As things stand, new united boss Erik ten Hag is ‘watching’ Mount’s contract situation, as his talks with Chelsea have stalled.

With a takeover recently happening, Mount’s future at Chelsea is deemed as ‘no longer secure’, with United looking to take advantage of that. So-much-so that the Reds have already registered interest in signing the Three Lions international.

Ten Hag has had eyes on Mount for a while, with the Dutchman first interested when the Englishman spent some time on loan at Vitebsk as a teenager. Now, it’s claimed the new United boss would ‘jump’ at the opportunity to work with Mount.

With two years left on his current Chelsea deal, the London club are under no immediate pressure to sell, so you’d imagine this feels like a bit of a long shot as things stand.

The last club Chelsea would like to sell to is United. If the worst was to happen, Mount would almost certainly be heading abroad, but I still fully believe he’ll remain at Chelsea for the foreseeable future as the player absolutely loves it there.

To us, this feels like a little bit of a non-story, but things can happen very quickly in football. For now, though, we’ll be filing this with Frenkie de Jong – another unlikely addition for the Reds this summer.
