Man United the club showing the ‘most significant’ interest in Evan Ferguson

Man United have been named as the club showing the biggest interest in signing Brighton starlet, Evan Ferguson.

It’s common knowledge that Manchester United’s biggest need this summer is a new front man. Erik ten Hag has lost Cristiano Ronaldo, while Anthony Martial has struggled to stay fit and Wout Weghorst hasn’t shown enough.

Spending big on a new number nine is never easy, with the situation complicated further by the fact that the Glazer family are still looking to sell up…

Names like Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen seem to be atop the wishlist, though Ten Hag seemingly isn’t afraid to look towards youth. Namely, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.

It’s the Irish Independent with the scoop. They name United as the club showing the ‘most significant’ interest in signing the emerging 18-year-old striker. Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Chelsea are also credited with interest.

Apparently, United officials have already made moves in the background, to let it be known they’re big admirers of Ferguson.

The catch? United are set to be turned down by the young Irishman, who will turn down the opportunity in the short-term. Instead, committing his future to Brighton.

His reps are currently in advanced talks with the Seagulls, about signing another new contract – just six months after penning a deal that’ll keep him at Brighton until 2026.

As things stand, its thought €40m (£35m) would be the bare minimum offer Brighton would listen to, though that fee is only likely to rise with the player set to remain at the club for at least another year.

Word on the grapevine is that Ferguson is a United fan. I fully expect the Red Devils to reaffirm their interest in the player in future – probably as early as summer 2024.
