Man United to be offered chance to sign Edinson Cavani for free in the summer: report

Manchester United Football Club lost Romelu Lukaku over the summer, leaving the Red Devils at least one player short up top.

Although there are other priority areas for the 20-time Premier League champions at this point, it would be foolish to neglect the signing of a striker come the summer.

Anyway, one man who could well be on the list of options for United is Edinson Cavani; that’s according to the Manchester Evening News.

Apparently, United are to be offered the chance to sign the prolific 32-year-old for free in the summer – though the Old Trafford club has been told the Uruguayan is not available this month.

Cavani has scored goals wherever he has been – including a huge 198 strikes in just under 300 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain. The forward is ‘not expected’ to sign a new deal in the French capital, with MEN sources close to the striker believing that a Reds move is a ‘possibility’ come the summer.

United aren’t the only interested team, though, with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid also keen. However, if the Reds could win the race, this could well be an astute piece of business.

Sure, Cavani wouldn’t come cheaply, though the experience and goals he’d bring to the table would prove to be invaluable. He can be the focal point of this extremely young United attacking line – and he’s available for free. What’s not to like?
