Th effects of not having Champions League football on the table is beginning to be felt…
According to a report from France Football, translated by the Manchester Evening News, Edinson Cavani will reject any advances from United this summer due to their participation in the Europa League.
Apparently, the same report from France reckons Cavani is more interested in a move to Atletico Madrid instead, who could have an opening if Diego Costa or Antoine Griezmann depart.
With Romelu Lukaku’s United future now in doubt, United may well be in the market for another striker this summer. Is Cavani that man? I’m not so sure. The Uruguay international is 32 now, and we’ve had several problems when it comes to signing older players over the last few years.
Personally, I’d much prefer United to take the youthful approach and move for someone younger. We covered a story from Goal France which linked United with a move for Moussa Dembele and that’s a deal I could firmly get on board.
That’s not to take anything away from Cavani who is obviously a brilliant striker in his own right. I just think United need to head in a different direction.
In their story, the MEN also add that their sources are telling them Cavani isn’t a United target despite ‘incessant speculation’… So make of that what you will.
