Man United to be without Cavani & Fred for Leicester game: report

Man United have been handed some disappointing news ahead of their next Premier League game.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United have endured a mixed start to the season, though they’re up their in terms of Premier League position.

Fixtures are about to get far tougher over the next month or so, mind. This is the true acid test for this new-look United squad – and it all starts with a game against Leicester City.

Ahead of that clash, United have been dealt a blow, as they’re set to be without a key first-team duo for that clash. The story comes from The Independent, who write that both Fred and Edinson Cavani are set to be missing.

Why, you ask? Well Brazil play their final game of the international break on Friday 15th at 01:30 BST, just 36 hours before United’s Saturday 15:00 BST kick-off against The Foxes.

Obviously, that’s inadequate preparation time for the players, particularly after a long flight back from South America – while Covid-19 is still rife.

Fred has been a regular throughout the Solskjaer era and he would’ve undoubtedly started this one if he was fit. Sadly, the Brazilian probably won’t even be ready for a spot on the bench.

As for Cavani, he’s slowly been working his way back to fitness following a disrupted start to the campaign. He has looked lively during United’s last couple of games and it’ll be much tougher without El Matador available here.

On the plus side, it does present opportunity for others. You look at Donny van de Beek, who is chomping at the bit for an opportunity. Why not see what he can do during this high-pressure fixture?

It also gives Anthony Martial another chance after his goal against Everton. Although he’s likely to be used as a substitute, with Cristiano Ronaldo almost certain to get the start – assuming he’s fit, of course.

Who should step in, in place of this Man United pair? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
