While it has been nice to take a break from transfer stories here at Old Trafford faithful. The international period was set to bring those stories flowing again…
The latest comes from Portugal, namely Correio da Manhã (Monday print edition), translated excellently via Sport Witness. They write that United are set to ‘fight’ Manchester City over the signature of 22-year-old centre-back, Ruben Dias…
SL Benfica’s star centre-back has constantly been linked with a move away from Portugal and it feels like every time that happens, United’s name inevitably crops up.
This time around, Correio da Manha adds that City are now interested due to an injury picked up by Aymeric Laporte.

In his current contract, Dias has a €66m (£59m) release clause, although that’s set to rise to €88m (£78m) due to a new deal that looks set to be signed.
To add further fuel to the fire, Dias’ agent, Jorge Mendes, has already told Benfica that it’ll be hard to keep the 22-year-old for much longer.
Honestly, I’m not sure United should spend big on another centre-half. The options are looking far better than they did a few months ago with Harry Maguire’s addition and I’d like to see other areas prioritised at this juncture.
That’s not to say Dias is a bad player. He isn’t, he’s excellent. United should be focusing their attentions elsewhere over the next couple of transfer windows, though.
